Dr. Raja Goli’s family moved from India to the United States when he was a small child. His family lived in Ohio for a few years, where his father completed part of a general surgery residency. They then lived in Canada for a few years, where his father completed a residency in urology.

Dr. Goli completed elementary school and high school in a small coal-mining town in southeastern Kentucky, where his father practiced urology. Dr. Goli’s parents had a close friend in Springfield, Illinois and his family used to visit Springfield often when he was growing up.

After high school, Dr. Goli earned his college Bachelor of Arts degree in Lexington, Kentucky at Transylvania University, where he was a biological science major and was on the Dean’s List for outstanding academic achievement. Transylvania University was ranked #1 in the category of “Regional Liberal Arts Colleges in the South” by U.S. News and World Report Magazine the year that Dr. Goli graduated.

After college, Dr. Goli earned his Doctor of Medicine degree in Louisville, Kentucky at the University of Louisville School of Medicine, where he received Honors.

After medical school, Dr. Goli completed a three-year residency in internal medicine in Los Angeles, California at the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine and was board certified by The American Board of Internal Medicine for 10 years.

Dr. Goli worked in primary care clinics and emergency rooms in medically underserved areas in Kentucky for several years and gained a considerable amount of experience treating problems such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart and lung diseases, strokes, and other serious medical conditions.

Dr. Goli gained an interest in ophthalmology and completed a one-year pre-residency fellowship in ophthalmic pathology in Washington, D.C. at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology. This institute was the top place in the world to study eye pathology, and while he was there, Dr. Goli published a paper in a leading scientific journal based on a project that he worked on while he was completing his fellowship.

Dr. Goli completed his second three-year residency in Cincinnati, Ohio at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and is currently board certified by The American Board of Ophthalmology.

Dr. Goli’s clinical and surgical interests include cataract surgery with premium lenses, diabetic eye disease, eyelid problems, glaucoma, macular degeneration, neurological ophthalmology, and other eye conditions.

Dr. Goli is delighted to join Prairie Eye and LASIK Center’s world-class team and provide eye care of unprecedented excellence to the Jacksonville community.

Dr. Goli has many interests outside of his medical practice. His family lives in several different states and he enjoys chess, photography, and traveling.
