The Future is Clear with LASIK Vision Correction

Are You a Candidate for LASIK?

Take the LASIK Self-Test to find out today!

What is LASIK?

LASIK (Laser-Assisted In-Situ Keratomileusis) is a refractive procedure that permanently reshapes the cornea. It is designed to eliminate your dependency on glasses & contacts, correcting refractive errors like nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.

At Prairie Eye and LASIK Center, we offer bladeless all-laser LASIK, an advanced form of the procedure that uses specialized lasers to improve the safety and precision of the procedure. We also use Wavescan mapping to make a 3-D map of your eye, making never-before possible customization and precision available for your surgery.

Good Candidate for LASIK?

The ideal candidate for LASIK has a stable refractive error within the correctable range, is free of eye disease, is at least 18 years old, and is willing to accept the potential risks, complications, and side effects of LASIK. You must also:

Not be pregnant or nursing
Have thick enough corneas
Be in good overall health
Have had a stable prescription for at least one year or more

Your LASIK surgeon at Prairie Eye and LASIK Center will conduct a comprehensive eye exam and consider these factors to determine whether you are a good candidate for LASIK.

How Does LASIK Work?

Before beginning the procedure, your LASIK surgeon will numb your eyes with anesthetic drops, ensuring you are completely comfortable. Then, they will use a femtosecond laser to create a tiny flap on the surface of your cornea.

The laser is capable of creating extremely precise flaps by producing tiny bubbles inside the cornea that are 1/10,000 of an inch in diameter. Next, the flap is lifted, and your LASIK surgeon uses an excimer laser with information from your Wavescan mapping to produce the desired customized changes in the shape of your cornea.
